COLLEGE ROUNDUP : CSUN Zeroes In on Fresno With Doubleheader Sweep

Cal State Northridge swept San Diego State, 2-0 and 7-0, Saturday in a Western Athletic Conference softball doubleheader in San Diego, setting up a WAC showdown with sixth-ranked Fresno State at Northridge next Friday.

Against San Diego State (21-25-1, 4-16-1 in conference play), Amy Windmiller (21-2) pitched a two-hitter and struck out five in the opener.

Beth Calcante’s run-scoring single and Tamara Ivie’s sacrifice fly in the seventh accounted for the Matadors’ runs.

Fourth-ranked Northridge (42-7, 17-3) pounded 11 hits in the second game, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Terri Pearson, Scia Maumausolo, Traci Gallian and Vicky Rios each had two hits.

Sophomore Jennifer Richardson (9-0) pitched a five-hitter and struck out five.

BASEBALL

Cal Lutheran 14, Whittier 3--The top-seeded Kingsmen breezed in their opening game of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament.

Sam Arroyo (8-1) pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and an unearned run.

Chris Fick and John Becker of Cal Lutheran (29-5-1) hit home runs on consecutive pitches in the first inning.

The Kingsmen will play host to third-seeded Pomona-Pitzer (22-12) at 1 p.m. today.

Desert 17, Antelope Valley 5--Chad Goodwin had two home runs for the Antelopes (14-19, 8-16) in a Foothill Conference game.

Mission 10, East L.A. 7--Francisco Flores hit a three-run homer in the ninth to lift the Free Spirit in a nonconference game.
