PREP ROUNDUP : Game Resumes, and Ocean View Beats Huntington Beach

Ocean View broke through with two runs against Huntington Beach ace Stefanie Noffsinger and won a Sunset League softball game, 2-0, Monday at Huntington Beach.

The game, which was suspended Friday because of rain with the score tied, 0-0, was picked up in the bottom of the fifth. Ocean View (16-5, 9-3) scored one run in the sixth and another in the seventh and moved into a second-place tie with Fountain Valley. The Oilers (14-8, 8-4) dropped into fourth.

Noffsinger (7-2) gave up five hits and struck out seven. The first run was unearned. Lisa Messick drove in the second with a double. It was only the second earned run Noffsinger had given up this season.

Kathy Ponce (16-5) pitched a two-hitter for Ocean View, which plays at Fountain Valley today.

In South Coast League softball:

El Toro 5, Mater Dei 2--The Chargers (19-8, 7-1) finished off Mater Dei (17-5, 6-2), after leading, 4-1, Friday when the game was stopped because of rain. As a result, first-place El Toro took a two-game lead.

El Toro’s Misty Lauby led the way, pitching a complete game, and giving up eight hits and striking out seven. Dana Gulick had two hits, including a double, and Kim Martin scored two runs and drove in two.

In the Arrowhead League:

Southern California Christian 9, La Sierra Academy 7--Southern California Christian (10-7, 7-0) clinched the league title, led by Carrie Ridgeway’s three hits and two RBIs.

Southern Section Northern Regional team golf tournament:

Sunny Hills advances--Jenny Lee shot two-under-par 70, tied for the low round of the day, at Rancho Maria Country Club in Santa Maria to lead the Lancers to a third-place finish and a spot in the Southern Section team championship next Monday at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs. Westlake Village Westlake shot 374, Santa Barbara San Marcos 376 and Sunny Hills 381. Terry Noe shot 73, Jin Park 74, John Park 77 and Mike Kim 87 for the Lancers.

Garden Grove League baseball:

La Quinta 10, Pacifica 0--La Quinta (21-3, 12-0) clinched the league title behind Joe Garcia, who pitched a complete game four-hitter, striking out eight.

Kennedy 4, Rancho Alamitos 2--Mike Clark’s two-out, two-run single, his third hit, highlighted a three-run sixth inning for Kennedy (15-8, 9-3).

In the Sunset League:

Servite 9, Westminster 1--Brian Greene (five innings) and Jim Munroe combined on a six-hitter for the Friars (14-8-1, 8-4). Greene also had three RBIs.
