Bland Quits as Orange Football Coach

Buddy Bland said Monday he has resigned as football coach at Orange High School to accept a similar position at Federal Way (Wash.) Jefferson High School.

Bland was 15-17-1 during his three years as the Panthers’ coach. Orange won Century League co-championships in 1991 and 1992, and reached the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Division IV playoffs in 1992.

Shelley Chacon has been selected girls’ volleyball coach at Tustin High, the school announced. Chacon previously coached at Biola, where she also played. Chacon replaces Julie Dahlberg, who resigned to continue her education. The Tillers finished seventh in the eight-team Sea View League. Tustin was 2-14, 2-12 in league play.

Katella’s Chris Carrillo has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which will begin Division I play in 1994-95. Carrillo, a four-time All-Empire League selection, averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Knights.
