Pugmire pulled off an impressive double by winning the 1,600 and 800 meters at the Southern Section Division II championships, helping her team to the title Saturday. Pugmire is an 800 specialist who has run the 1,600 about five times in competition, but she out-kicked more experienced runners to win in 5 minutes 6.62 seconds. In the 800, Pugmire again was challenged late in the race and held on for the victory in 2:16.64. “Both times when she was challenged, if she had it, she answered and came back,” Esperanza Coach Al Britt said.
