Police on Wednesday were investigating the fatal shooting of a man in the Venice community of Oakwood, the second shooting in the area in the last four days.

Harold McDaniel, a 33-year-old Venice resident, was sitting in his car outside a liquor store about 6 p.m. Tuesday when he was approached by two men, one of whom fired several rounds, Los Angeles police said.

Police said McDaniel was hit in the torso and died at the scene. One of the assailants was wearing a bandanna over his face and the other was wearing a ski cap, police said. Both fled in a yellow Chevrolet Impala.

“No warning or comments were given before the shooting,” said Los Angeles Police Detective Mike DePasquale. Police said no suspects have been taken into custody and the case remains under investigation.

On Saturday morning, 22-year-old Juan Ramiro was shot outside his Venice residence. He remains in fair condition and is awaiting surgery for a gunshot wound to his arm. Authorities, who have made no arrests in the case, declined to identify the hospital where he is being treated, citing safety concerns.

Neither of the two gunshot victims was a gang member, police said.
