Booth Shoots 67 to Take First-Round Lead in Nevada

Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza shot five-under-par 67 in the first round of the Las Vegas Founders’ Legacy American Junior Golf Assn. tournament Tuesday at the Legacy Golf Club in Henderson, Nev. She leads the girls’ division by five shots.

Stephanie Keever of Las Vegas is second at 72. Fullerton’s Jenny Lee is tied for fourth after a 74.

In the boys’ 15-18 division, Terry Noe of Fullerton is three shots off the lead after shooting 72. Charlie Woerner of Sunnyvale leads at 69.

Other Orange County players include: John Lee (73) of Placentia, Chris Berry (74) of Yorba Linda, Steve Wagner (74) of Mission Viejo, Ben Garner (75) of Lake Forest and Jeffrey McGraw (75) of Fullerton.

Fred Morgan has been hired as wrestling coach at Cypress High School, Athletic Director John Selbe announced.

Morgan, who will be a walk-on coach, headed the program at Costa Mesa from 1989 through last winter, when he was relieved of his position because his work schedule conflicted with the sixth-period class that athletes schedule at the end of the school day.

Morgan led Costa Mesa to the Pacific Coast League championship in 1991.

Tickets for Disneyland Pigskin Classic V, between Ohio State and Fresno State Aug. 29 at Anaheim Stadium, are on sale at the stadium box office at Gate 9.

Tickets for the game, which will start at 6 p.m., are $30 and $18.

Jason Friend, a first-team All-Sunset League offensive lineman from Huntington Beach High, orally committed to the University of San Diego, his father Clarence said. Friend, who is 6 feet 2 1/2 and 280 pounds, also was recruited by Cornell and Dartmouth.
