Before getting in trouble at the Orlando airport, Muller, who had also been contributing articles to the Orlando Sentinel, refused to take part in a media security check when departing the Citrus Bowl after Monday’s game.

“We did not allow it,” Muller wrote for Tuesday’s Sentinel editions. “I was surprised and upset that they would want to do this. Why should we open our bag when we leave the stadium? This is an experience I have not had in my 20 years covering soccer.”

“They tried to explain that someone stole something in the stadium, and that was the cause for the check. That is a pity, but it is not a reason to control all the media. It is their failure, not our guilt.”

“It also is the responsibility of the host committee to watch out for the security of the stadium. I can swear that I would never steal something in a stadium, and if I ever did, it would be the whole stadium.”
