Scyphers to Meet With School Board

Mike Scyphers will meet today with members of the Simi Valley school board, who likely will determine the embattled baseball coach’s future at Simi Valley High.
“I think we’ve finally come through the legal procedures that will allow this thing to come to closure,” board member Doug Crosse said.
Scyphers and board members will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the district office to discuss the disciplinary actions suggested by Principal Kathryn Scroggin. Crosse said the board also is likely to consider Scroggin’s recommendation that Scyphers be rehired with 10 stipulations that he maintain certain conduct.
Scyphers, 41, was suspended as baseball coach May 3 while police and the district investigated alleged financial and disciplinary improprieties. The district attorney cleared him of criminal wrongdoing June 8, and his suspension was lifted the following day.
Because all coaches in the district are on one-year contracts, Scyphers needed the approval of Scroggin and the board to return as coach next season.
