Westlake Team Advances to CABA Series

The Westlake Senators 14-and-under baseball traveling team qualified for the Continental Amateur Baseball Assn. World Series by winning a recent state tournament held in Monterey Park.

The Senators, composed primarily of players from the Valley and Ventura County, defeated South Gate twice to win the state tournament and had a 5-1 record overall. In an earlier district tournament, the Senators won four in a row after dropping their first game.

The CABA World Series will be held Aug. 4-15 in Dublin, Ohio.

Several area Little League all-star teams have passed their first test on the long road to the World Series, winning district championships to advance to sectional play.

In District 40, which includes most of the San Fernando Valley, Northridge won the Little League (12-year-old) district title. District 40 is playing host to the sectional tournament at Woodland Hills Sunrise Little League field.

Northridge opens the tournament today at 1 p.m. against District 16, the Glendale/La Crescenta area.

SanVal won District 40 championships in the Senior (15-year-old) and Junior (13-year-old) divisions. Both teams opened sectional play this weekend at New Temple Park in South. El Monte.

Woodland Hills, the District 40 Minor (10-year-old) division champion, is playing in a sectional tournament in Arcadia.

The Little League girls’ softball District 40 championship was won by Northridge and Granada Hills took the Senior Division softball title.

In District 13, which includes most of Ventura County, El Rio won the Little League championship and opens sectional play this weekend at Bubbling Springs Park in Port Hueneme. Thousand Oaks won the Minor Division district title.

Thousand Oaks also won the Junior Division championship and begins sectional play at Bubbling Springs Park. Senior Division champion Port Hueneme begins play against Goleta, the host team.
