Darren Angel of Northridge shot a one-under-par 71 Thursday in the final round of the Southwestern Junior Championship at Champions Golf Course at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Angel, a senior at Granada Hills High, finished in a two-way tie for fourth with a 54-hole total of 214. Jay Osmon of Alamosa, Colo., was first at 206.

Ross Fulgentis of Westlake Village finished tied for seventh at 216 and Jason Semelsberger of Newhall was 12th at 219.

Steve Farris of Newhall finished at 233 and Brandon DiTullio of Thousand Oaks shot 235.

DiTullio and Fulgentis are Westlake High teammates. Semelsberger and Farris are teammates at Hart.

Linda Ishii of Westlake Village is tied for 24th in the girls’ division of the PGA Junior Championship at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Ishii, a Westlake High student, is at 241, 29 shots off the lead.

Ben Cherney of Encino stumbled to a 95 in the final round of the American Junior Golf Assn. Smith Corona Championship at Apawamis Country Club in Rye, N.Y.

Cherney, who entered the final round in 10th place, finished tied for 55th at 254.

Basketball

An auction and a dinner tonight will launch the two-day Cedric Ceballos weekend to benefit the Ventura Boys’ and Girls’ Club and Ventura College’s basketball program.

Ceballos, a forward with the Phoenix Suns, played at Ventura in 1986-87 and 1987-88. He is the school’s career scoring leader with 1,609 points.

Ceballos will conduct a clinic Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the college gym and play in the alumni game at 7 p.m.

The auction and dinner will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Ventura.

Tickets are $50 for the dinner, $10 for the clinic and $5 for the alumni game.

Football

The Ventura College football team will hold its annual black-and-orange scrimmage Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the school’s practice field.

A barbecue sponsored by the team’s booster club will follow the scrimmage. Tickets for the barbecue are $3.50 per person or $10 per family.

Moorpark College will hold a garage sale Saturday at 8 a.m. as a program fund-raiser. An intrasquad scrimmage will follow at 11.

Tennis

Meilen Tu, 16, of Northridge will face Silvia Farina of Milan, Italy on Monday in the first round of the U.S. Open tennis championships at the United States Tennis Assn. National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Tu, one of eight players to receive a wild-card entry into the main draw, won the USTA Girls’ 18-and-under national championships last month.
