Verbum Dei 18, Santa Maria 17--Corey Redeaux ran for one touchdown and passed for another as Verbum Dei held off Santa Maria at Dave Boyd Field in Santa Maria.

Redeaux, a senior debuting as Eagle quarterback after being moved from tailback, rushed for 41 yards. The leading rusher for the Eagles was Monet Walzer with 89 yards. Alfredo Concepcion of Santa Maria led all rushers with 176 yards. Each team totaled 264 yards in total offense.

Concepcion scored on a 21-yard run late in the second quarter to bring the Saints to within 18-14. He was later hauled down at the three-yard line after a 78-yard run. The Verbum Dei defense held and Santa Maria was forced to kick a field goal for its final points.
