Share

Coach: Jim Schultz (first year).

1993: 16-2, 9-1; lost to Laguna Beach in the Southern Section Division II quarterfinals.

Key returners: Brandi Freudenberg, Sr., advanced to section singles semifinals last year, will play No. 1 singles; Holli Freudenberg, So., will play No. 2 or No. 3 singles; Talline Kojian, So., will play doubles; Amy Medlin, Jr., will play No. 2 or No. 3 singles; Julie Yoshikawa, Sr., will play doubles.

Key newcomers: Yu Chang, Jr., will play doubles; Susanne Cowan, So., will play doubles; Kellie Medigovich, So., will play doubles with junior Anjula Narang; Mary Rasch, Sr., will play doubles; Joanna Zafra, Jr., will play doubles.

Outlook: Usually when coaches retire, they leave the cupboard bare for the new coach. Not in this case. Art Green left Schultz, his assistant of three years, perhaps the most talented team in the county. Schultz says the Freudenberg sisters and Medlin are playing the best tennis of their lives. If the young doubles teams come together, El Modena will challenge for the Division II title.
