ROUNDUP : Harvard Stays Perfect, Routs Alemany, 30-0

Freshman driver Phil Spataru had four goals and goaltender Vahe Ahroian made 10 saves for Harvard-Westlake in a 30-0 Mission League water polo blowout that was the season opener for Alemany.

Harvard-Westlake, ranked fifth in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches poll, remained undefeated at 7-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Crespi 16, Notre Dame 14--David Brea had six goals and Mike Scarcelli added four as the visiting Celts (10-7, 1-0) held off a late rally in their Mission League opener.

Theo Smelts van Oyen and Chris Crowley each had four goals for the Knights (10-3, 0-2), while Crespi goaltender Pete Driscoll stopped 17 shots.

Thousand Oaks 11, Westlake 10--Steve Lazar scored the game-winning goal from six meters in a man-up situation with 24 seconds to play for the Lancers (3-5, 1-0) in their Marmonte League opener.

Kevin Rudrud had 18 saves and Ryan Hodgins added six goals to lead Thousand Oaks.

Westlake’s David Block was held to four goals while Casey Austin recorded nine blocks for the Warriors (5-3, 0-1).

Agoura 20, Newbury Park 3--The Chargers, ranked No. 5 in Southern Section Division I, had their most-lopsided victory of the season.

Chris Driscoll had seven goals, and Harvey Wilford and Noah Bookman each added three.

Joey Vona, David Arons and Kevin Bartine each had two goals for Agoura (11-3, 1-0).

MEN’S SOCCER

The Master’s 4, UC Santa Cruz 1--Paul Smith, Lucas Principe, Stephen Janho and Bryan Lee all scored for the Mustangs (10-1-1) in the nonconference match at Santa Cruz.

Kris Bage had four saves for The Master’s, yielding the Bannana Slugs’ lone goal in the 74th minute to Ayuji Veda.

Pomona Pitzer 1, Cal Lutheran 0--Ryan Kaufman made 10 saves for the Kingsmen (3-9, 3-1) in the SCIAC loss at Pomona.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5, The Master’s 0--Claremont forward Allison Pinto scored two goals while Master’s goalie Kariss Steinert faced 32 shots, saving 27.

Cal Lutheran 1, Pomona Pitzer 0--Freshman Kim Holeman scored with under a minute remaining to give the Regals (9-3, 5-0) an SCIAC victory at Pomona.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Royal 12, Newbury Park 6--Nikki Parades swept her singles matches, 6-1, 6-4, 6-1, while Jenn Barefoot and Jamie Marley won three doubles matches, 6-4, 6-0, 6-3, to lead Royal (7-2, 3-2) in the Marmonte League match.
