San Marcos 21, Rio Mesa 14--Running back Nathan Ridgell returned a kickoff 82 yards for one score and rushed 69 yards for another as San Marcos spoiled Rio Mesa’s homecoming.
Rio Mesa (1-7, 0-5) took a 6-0 lead on its first possession, marching 63 yards in nine plays, capped by Sarhaad Azimi’s 14-yard scoring run.
Jahir Garcia received the ensuing kickoff and handed to Ridgell, who outran the Spartans for a 7-6 lead.
San Marcos (5-3, 4-1) scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns on quarterback Cory Leholm’s one-yard sneak and Ridgell’s long run. Ridgell finished with 154 yards in 28 carries.
Rio Mesa fullback Albert Ambriz (17 carries, 66 yards) scored on a three-yard run in the final minute.
