MOORPARK : Montgomery Clear to Run for Supervisor

Share

An official in the secretary of state’s office said Thursday that Ventura County supervisorial candidate Scott Montgomery had filed the necessary papers with the state to run for supervisor, clearing up questions raised earlier by local authorities.

Last week, Don Coleman, Ventura County special assistant district attorney, said it appeared that the Moorpark city councilman had failed to notify the secretary of state about using his council campaign committee to run for supervisor. Candidates are required to form campaign committees in order to establish a bank account to accept campaign contributions.

Coleman said he found no record that Montgomery had contacted state officials.

But Nelwin Jackson, an official in the secretary of state’s office, said Friday that Montgomery had complied with the law. She said he had filed the necessary paperwork with the Moorpark city clerk in March, but that the clerk never forwarded the information.

Jackson said her office received a faxed copy of Montgomery’s campaign papers on Wednesday.
