Israel Gonzales, a Cypress College third baseman, orally committed Tuesday to attend Oklahoma. Gonzalez, who was an All-America selection his freshman season at Cypress, will sign a letter of intent today.

Gonzalez hit .357 last season, with 46 runs batted in and 44 runs scored, helping Cypress to the state championship.

Pacifica Principal Mike Lombardi on Tuesday announced the hiring of three varsity head coaches.

Bart Robinson has been named the wrestling coach. He previously was the head coach at La Quinta the past seven years.

Ryan Betancourt has been named the girls’ basketball coach. He was an assistant women’s coach at Cypress College for two years and had assisted at Estancia for two years before that.

Tom Kostic has been named the baseball coach. He has been coach of the Yankees’ scout team since 1990. He has assisted at Woodbridge and Tustin, and also is a private pitching and hitting instructor. He teaches at Portola Junior High.
