The Southern Section said Wednesday “there was no eligibility problem” involving a football player from top-ranked Los Alamitos who had transferred from Cypress.

Dean Crowley, Southern Section commissioner, on Tuesday asked Los Alamitos Principal Carol Hart to investigate an allegation that the player had not moved into the Los Alamitos attendance area.

Two Los Alamitos administrators made unannounced visits Wednesday morning to the family’s current and former residences and found everything was in order.

“Everything checks out,” Hart said. “The mother was living there. (In the boy’s bedroom) there was a bed, a football poster on the wall and dirty clothes on the floor.”

Said Crowley: “They also visited the previous residence, owned by the mother. She rents it to other individuals. They were able to show a rental agreement and rent checks for the last few months. Apparently, she takes the boy over there on weekends to work on the house, to do yard work and clean.

“The two administrators were very, very satisfied. They did a thorough job. They did things I wouldn’t have asked them to do.”

Crowley asked Hart to act in response to questions raised by another Sunset League school.
