Venice 28, Van Nuys 18--The Wolves (6-5) jumped out to a 12-0 lead at Venice, but the Gondoliers (7-4) scored the next 28 points to defeat Van Nuys in the first round for the second consecutive year.
Van Nuys quarterback Chris Byfield completed nine of 23 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown, a 42-yard pass play to wide receiver Damien Boudreaux to cut the Venice lead to 28-18 with 4:42 left.
Boudreaux also set up the second Van Nuys score with a 40-yard punt return. Van Nuys running back Larry Reed sat out the game because of an injured ankle. Running back John McPherson rushed 22 times for 77 yards and scored two touchdowns on runs of two and four yards.
