OUTLOOK

Like the rest of the teams in the league, Laguna Beach is young and inexperienced with only one senior. Only time will tell how good the Artists, who finished sixth last season, could be. The Artists have a young crop of three juniors and six sophomores that give them hope. Chambers, the lone returning starter, Chaffee and Olney each averaged four points. But the trio will have to bump that average up if Laguna Beach is to improve on its 0-10 league finish. Defense, speed and athleticism are the Artists’ strong points, but they lack a consistent scorer and sorely need some height to match up with the rest of the league’s centers. Containing players like Mitchelson and Haneef will be a difficult task for Boyce and the rest of the Artist interior defense. Laguna Beach plays host to a tournament before league play begins and that should give Olney a good look at his squad’s abilities. Olney hopes to have a winning season and reach the playoffs for the first time in his five-year tenure.
