OUTLOOK

Any team with Philman can win on any given night. The all-county and Southern Section player averaged 27 points last season, second in the county, and her 14.3 rebounds ranked her third. A physical force, she should again have her way on most nights, but the challenge is for Edison to complement Philman instead of relying on her. With five starters returning, the Chargers have plenty of experience and leadership. Height and inside play won’t be a problem, either. But of concern is the perimeter game--outside shooting is a question mark. The returning starters collectively averaged 49 points last season, but only Philman averaged more than 7.4. Edison’s goals include reaching the section quarterfinals. The task of getting the Chargers there falls on White, who coached them to a section title in 1987, then left the program. After a seven-year hiatus, he is back; question is, are the glory days back with him?
