OUTLOOK
Smith, in his second season of coaching, admits his team is in a rebuilding phase, but he is excited to even have a team to coach. Smith had to recruit girls around campus to field a team, but he thinks they are going to do better than expected. The team should be able to get a victory or two, but it’s still a year or two away from major improvement. Bellsky returns to the team at guard after badly spraining her ankle early last season. Freshman Carmargo is “a pure athlete” who is learning basketball for the first time, but Smith says she masters a new skill every day. She played Pop Warner football when she was younger and she’d like to play football in high school. Smith is excited about her ability and expects her to start. Clements is also a newcomer Smith hopes to start at point guard. Smith’s first goal this season is just to win a game.
