PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : All That Practice Must Have Paid Off

On the Raiders’ depth chart, Alberto White is listed at right defensive end behind Anthony Smith and Aundray Bruce.

Over the last four games, however, White has made his presence known as a pass-rush specialist. His pressure on quarterbacks played a key role in the Raider victories over the Rams, New Orleans and San Diego.

Not bad for a player who was on the practice roster for the first nine games.

“Alberto brings tenacity,” Coach Art Shell said Friday. “He has great quickness with speed to get up the field and apply pressure.”

White, who has only two tackles, including one 10-yard sack, was a 10th-round pick with the Raiders from Texas Southern in 1992.

The offensive line received good news Friday, when the NFL office erased a sack from last Monday’s game at San Diego.

Originally, Junior Seau of the Chargers was given a sack when he tackled quarterback Jeff Hostetler for a five-yard loss on the Raiders’ final play.

After review, however, the play was ruled a run by Hostetler.

The annual Toys for Tots drive, sponsored by the Raiders and the U.S. Marine Corps, will be held Sunday at the Coliseum before the Raiders play Denver. Fans are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys to the Coliseum gates. . . . Cornerback Lionel Washington, who has sat out three games because of a lower leg injury, did not practice Friday. . . . With 1,044 yards receiving, Tim Brown has topped the 1,000-yard mark two consecutive seasons. Brown needs seven catches to tie his Raider single-season mark for wide receivers with 80.
