Five goals and an assist by sophomore forward Denise Paul led Chatsworth High to an 8-0 victory over Reseda in a girls’ soccer match Friday.

The Chancellors (4-0) have outscored their opposition, 31-0, this season and did not allow a shot on junior goaltender Ariella Loewenstein. Reseda’s senior goalie Brenda Lomeli had 16 saves.

“Other than the Granada Hills game (a 5-0 Chatsworth victory), we’ve been able to dominate everyone we’ve played,” Coach Jack Sidwell said. “No one’s been able to keep the ball in our half of the field.”

Sidwell substituted freely and the Chancellors suffered occasional lapses in concentration.

But even after starters Paul, Pamela George (one goal, one assist) and Ember Lee (one goal, one assist) had departed, the pressure was maintained by reserves such as Brianna Preis and Corinne Briers (one goal).

Reseda Coach Yidnekatchew Hailu was upbeat despite watching his team fall to 0-3. Reseda began a girls’ soccer program only this year. However, Hailu admitted he chose not to tell his team about Chatsworth’s tradition prior to the game.

“I didn’t tell them about Chatsworth’s five straight (City Section) championships because they would have been frozen, but I told them we’re learning,” said Hailu, whose 23-player roster includes 21 freshmen.

“Three years from now we will be able to beat Chatsworth.”
