Yeah, Coach, That Really Showed ‘Em

FREMONT, Neb. — The coach of winless York College ordered his players to make three consecutive baskets for the other team to put them over 100 points Saturday night.
After Midland Lutheran went up, 98-51, with about eight minutes remaining, York inbounded the ball and a York player took it for a layup on his own basket. It happened twice more before the referees called timeout.
“If a team is beating us badly, then we’re not going to let them score the 100 points on us,” Coach Rod Baxter said. “We’re going to do it ourselves.”
Said Keith Krabbe, Midland’s sports information director: “I had absolutely no idea why he did it. I was standing there with my jaw hanging open, wondering how to score it.”
Midland (5-2) ended up winning 124-69. York dropped to 0-15.
