Share

FIRST-TEAM PROFILES

Student: Kevin Feterik

Position: QB

School: LOS ALAMITOS

Year: JR.

In his first season as a starter, Feterik (6-2, 180) completed 68% of his passes for 2,911 yards and 27 touchdowns with only six interceptions, all in 9 1/2 games. Feterik broke a bone in his left hand in the first half of the season opener and missed the next three games.

*

Student: Dahrin Footman

Position: RB

School: ESPERANZA

Year: SR.

Esperanza’s one-back offense maximized the number of times Footman (5-8, 185) would get the ball. He rushed for 1,852 yards, averaging 7.5 yards per carry, and scored 24 touchdowns. Fresno State and Nevada Las Vegas are among the teams recruiting him.

*

Student: Brendan McGraw

Position: RB

School: LAGUNA HILLS

Year: SR.

McGraw (6-1, 186) finished second all-time in single-season rushing (2,511 yards) and first in touchdowns (45) in county, despite skipping six halves--the equivalent of three games--because Hawks were so far ahead. California and San Diego State are recruiting.

Student: Kris Farris

Position: OL

School: SANTA MARGARITA

Year: SR.

Farris (6-8, 275) has the size scouts drool over. He is an excellent backside pass protector and improved his run-blocking this season. He has quick feet, is athletic for a big man, and is rarely beaten by opposing defenses. UCLA, USC and Stanford are recruiting him.

*

Student: Jason Grain

Position: OL

School: SONORA

Year: SR.

A two-time letterman and All-Freeway League selection, Grain (6-5, 270) can count Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and USC among teams recruiting him. Solid as both a run- and pass-blocker. Was Sonora’s offensive lineman of the year.

*

Student: Jeff Hagstrom

Position: OL

School: IRVINE

Year: SR.

Hagstrom (6-1, 265) is athletic with good quickness, and Irvine Coach Terry Henigan says Hagstrom is the strongest football player ever at Irvine. A center, the Vaqueros left him to block one-on-one; an excellent run-blocker, he was even better against the pass rush.

*

Student: Matt Motherway

Position: OL

School: MATER DEI

Year: SR. One of the top linemen prospects in the county. Being recruited by USC, UCLA, Colorado and Stanford, among others. A solid run-blocker with quick feet. A two-time All-South Coast League selection and three-year letterman. Also plays defensive tackle.

*

Student: Brett Samperi

Position: OL

School: SAN CLEMENTE

Year: SR. Could be the best lineman in San Clemente history. USC, California, Arizona State and Oregon are among the teams recruiting him. Has good speed to go with his size (6-5, 270). Could walk in and play at most colleges. A two-time All-South Coast League selection.

*

Student: Brad Melsby

Position: WR

School: LOS ALAMITOS

Year: SR.

The Griffins were 39-1-1 during his three-year career. Melsby (6-1, 183) finished as Orange County’s leader in career receptions (185), yardage (2,979), and touchdown receptions (35). UCLA, Stanford, Arizona State and Minnesota are among the schools recruiting him.

Student: Rod Perry

Position: WR

School: MATER DEI

Year: SO.

A fast and dangerous receiver, he had 59 receptions for 1,191 yards--the sixth-most in county history. Has scored 16 touchdowns. Scored two touchdowns in varsity debut, one on a reverse. Also a talented defensive back, as was his father, former Ram Rod Perry Sr.

*

Student: Brian Forth

Position: TE

School: ESPERANZA

Year: JR. Forth (6-1, 180) has soft hands and was fearless over the middle. He was versatile; the Aztecs also used him as an outside receiver and occasionally as a wing back to carry the ball. He led the team with 59 receptions for 995 yards and nine touchdowns.

*

Student: Patrick Shinnefield

Position: K

School: MATER DEI

Year: SR.

Had 12 field goals, tops in Orange County and 11th most in county history. Had 54 conversions. Scored 90 points, most by a kicker since The Times began keeping statistics. Has great accuracy and range. His longest field goal was 50 yards, and he also kicked a 48-yarder.
