BOYS BASKETBALL : Generals Start Fast in Win Over Jefferson

Behind the play of Charles Stone and Daniel Brown, the Washington Generals were too athletic for Jefferson and won 94-45 Friday in the first round of the Pacific Open basketball Tournament.
The Generals, who outrebounded the Democrats, 49-21, broke the game open with an 18-0 spurt in the second quarter to take a 26-point lead. That lead grew to 53 points in the second half.
South Torrance 68, Dorsey 58--The Dons shot only 31 percent from the field as South Torrance cruised to a first-round Pacific Open victory.
Several Dons, including starting forward Wil O’Neal, did not play because they appeared in a game Thursday night against Servite in the Tournament of Champions.
Westchester 95, Manual Arts 49--Westchester exploded for 31 first-quarter points and beat Manual Arts in a second-round game of the Tournament of Champions at Ocean View High School on Tuesday.
Westchester forward Jarvis Young led a balanced attack with 17 points. Travis Reed had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Toilers.
Los Alamitos 60, Dorsey 47--Corey Johnson scored eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter when Los Alamitos outscored Dorsey by 12 points to win a second-round game in the Tournament of Champions at Ocean View.
Jerome Vandervoet was 8 for 12 from the floor for a game-high 18 points.
Dorsey trailed by a point entering the fourth quarter.
Jason Howzell, who had 10 points and six rebounds, was the only other Don to reach double figures.
Wilson 57, Verdugo Hills 56--Guard Mario Aguilar scored 19 points in the Mules’ Northern Conference victory at Wilson on Tuesday.
Crenshaw 106, Cleveland 46-- Damian Willis scored 22 points and Corey Williams added 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Cougars surpassed the 100-point mark for the fourth time in seven games in a nonconference game at Crenshaw on Wednesday.
After taking a 28-8 first-quarter lead, Crenshaw used a full-court press to force turnovers and create easy scoring opportunities.
Cleveland’s James Brignac led all scorers with 26 points.
