PACIFIC OPEN ROUNDUP : MVP Breedlove Carries Jordan to Convincing Tournament Victory

Clem Breedlove, who scored a game-high 39 points and received MVP honors, erased all doubts that Jordan Coach Ed Kamiyama may have had going into Wednesday night’s Pacific Open basketball 3-A tournament final against Canoga Park.

“We might have some trouble tonight,” Kamiyama said before the game. “Canoga Park is a little bigger and stronger.”

But after a 37-4 run in the second quarter--including Breedlove’s 23 points during that stretch--size and strength didn’t mean a thing as Jordan defeated Canoga Park, 117-78, in the lower division.

With 1:24 left in the first quarter, Eddie Hernandez, who scored 29 points, nailed a 20-footer to give Jordan a 16-15 lead. But six minutes into the second quarter, the Bulldogs were rolling with a 53-19 advantage.

“I felt I could score against that team,” a smiling Breedlove said. “Besides, we needed to win on back-to-back nights.

Jordan’s Termell Goss chipped in with 21 points.

After the game, Kamiyama explained the outcome.

“We took Canoga Park out of their game and played solid ball.”
