Oakley Will Undergo Toe Surgery Today
Forward Charles Oakley will undergo surgery today for a partially dislocated toe, sidelining him for at least six weeks, the New York Knicks said Monday.
Oakley decided on surgery Sunday night after the Knicks lost their fifth game in a row, 107-104, to the Bulls at Chicago. He had tried playing with a special shoe but it didn’t help.
“It’s just too much,” he said. “I really can’t get any lift. I might as well do it now so it doesn’t affect the whole year. . . . We’re just wasting time.”
The injury is to the second toe on Oakley’s right foot, and the special shoe caused him to sprain his ankle slightly several times after he returned to the lineup Thursday, Oakley said.
