BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Mann Is the Man in Santa Ana Valley’s Victory

Olujimi Mann scored 25 points as Santa Ana Valley beat Rockville (N.C.) Persons, 66-64, in the North Carolina tournament Tuesday in Raleigh.

Ike Harmon added 12 for Santa Ana Valley (8-4) in a victory over Persons, the top-ranked team in North Carolina.

Santa Ana Valley trailed, 21-11, after one quarter, but outscored Persons, 43-31, in the second half. The Falcons advanced to the semifinals to play Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter, the No. 1-ranked team in Georgia.

In the Century Holiday Classic:

Westminster 67, Laguna Hills 63--Mike Scaglione had 37 points to lead Westminster (6-5) to a first-round victory. Aaron Boorman had 23 points for Laguna Hills (6-2).

Costa Mesa 68, Villa Park 63--The Mustangs outscored Villa Park, 27-10, in the third quarter after trailing by nine at the half. Mike Montoya had 22 points to lead Costa Mesa (4-7).

Calvary Chapel 62, Los Amigos 52--Kevin Falconer had 18 points, including four three-pointers, for Calvary Chapel (10-2), which led, 35-29, at the half.

Sonora 79, Santa Ana 48--Craig Clark scored 26 points and Chad Fister had 14 for seventh-ranked Sonora (10-2), which plays Costa Mesa in the quarterfinals tonight at 7.

In the Canyon tournament:

Magnolia 65, Saddleback 39--Josh Reding scored a game-high 21 points, including four three-pointers, to lead Magnolia (7-6). Teammate Hani Atalla added 18 points.

Oxnard Hueneme 61, El Modena 53--Chris Goodwin scored 14 in El Modena’s losing effort. Teammate Ryan Villmer added 10 for the Vanguards.

In the Daily Pilot Coast Classic:

Estancia 60, Bakersfield Stockdale 42--Dane Plock scored 13 points and had six assists for No. 9 Estancia (11-2). Teammate Tom Feeney added 10 for the Eagles.

Corona del Mar 48, Huntington Beach 45--Brian Fracalosy scored 18 points and Dom Degrazier had 15 points for Corona del Mar (9-4). Jeremy Jones and Jeff Fullbright had 13 points each for Huntington Beach (6-4), which will take on Rialto today at 4:10 p.m.

In the Nogales tournament:

San Clemente 65, La Puente Bassett 50--Mike Castaneda scored a season-high 27 points and Gabe Gardner had 11 points and 12 rebounds for San Clemente (6-7), which led by 21 after three quarters.

In the Eagle Rock tournament:

St. Margaret’s 61, Belmont 40--Damian Raibon scored a game-high 16 points for St. Margaret’s (7-2). Rob Miltner added eight points and nine rebounds.

In the Katella Classic:

Katella 64, Western 48--Carlos Romero scored 16 points and Jacy Armbruster added 15 to lead No. 5 Katella (12-0). LaByron Clayton scored 14 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds for the Knights.

In the Orange Holiday Classic:

Kennedy 52, Marina 49--Justin Zuschlag scored 20 points for Kennedy (5-6) in a first-round victory. Steve Bolton scored 15 points for Marina (1-8).

Esperanza 72, Valencia 25--Almar Lim broke a school record by hitting six three-pointers to lead Esperanza (6-6). Lim finished with 18 points. Teammate Josh Greer scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

In the Mt. Carmel tournament:

Los Alamitos 58, La Mesa Mt. Miguel 53--Eighth-ranked Los Alamitos took a 35-29 halftime lead and held on against Mt. Miguel. Cory Johnson scored 14 points and Jeremy Vandervoet had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Griffins (9-3).

In the Sun Devil Holiday Classic:

Trabuco Hills 73, Boulder City (Nev.) 43--Nick Punto had 21 points and Joe Adams had 12 points for Trabuco Hills (8-4), which outscored Boulder City, 39-14, in the second half in the first-round victory.

Trabuco Hills will take on Las Vegas Cimmaron Memorial at 4 p.m. today in the quarterfinals.

In the Reno Nugget Raider tournament:

Seattle Shorecrest 70, Woodbridge 61--Eric Ripley’s layup tied the game at 54-54 with six minutes left, but Shorecrest outscored the Warriors, 16-7, the rest of the way. Chris Burgess had 21 points and Ripley 15 to lead Woodbridge (9-4).

In the Atascadero tournament:

El Toro 67, Paso Robles 56--Scott Hall had 25 points and Sean Callahan added 11 for El Toro (5-7). The Chargers will face Santa Maria in the semifinals tonight at 6 p.m. Jesus Fernandez had 20 points for Paso Robles (4-5), which will play Whittier Christian at 3 p.m. today in a consolation game.

Santa Maria 61, Whittier Christian 56--Tim Specht had 25 points for Santa Maria (4-4) in its first-round victory. Trevor Ream and Edward Zieman had 12 points each for Whittier Christian (5-6), which will play Paso Robles in a consolation game today at 3 p.m.
