COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cunningham Leads Fullerton to Victory Over Palomar

Jason Cunningham had 26 points and nine assists to lead Fullerton over Palomar, 102-78, in a nonconference basketball game Thursday night.

Cunningham was 12 for 14 from the field and had four rebounds. Teammates Scott Davis had 20 points, including six of eight from three-point range, and Marcus Austin had 15 points and six rebounds.

The Hornets (9-8) outscored Palomar, 58-37, in the second half to blow open the game. They were 11 for 21 from three-point range and five players scored 12 or more points.

In the College of the Canyons men’s tournament:

East L.A. 74, Cypress 70--Alfredo Durazo, who scored 20 points for East L.A., sank a last-minute jumper to give East L.A. the victory.

Gill Gonzalez scored 15 points and Jeff Rutter had 12 for Cypress.

In the Rancho Santiago Holiday tournament:

Saddleback 73, Long Beach City 70--Anthony Carter scored 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds and Eric Ambrozich had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Saddleback (12-3) in the second-round victory. Marcus Woods had 22 points and Robert Darvil lead with 13 for Long Beach (15-4).

In the San Diego Mesa tournament:

Bakersfield 65, Orange Coast 60--Sean Piatkowski and Morris Morgan had 19 points each to lead Bakersfield (7-7) in the consolation finals. Tyrone Ellis and Rico Blandon had 14 points apiece for Orange Coast (8-8).

In the Fullerton women’s tournament:

Cypress 68, Fullerton 49--Sara Works scored 23 points for Cypress (14-5), which advances to the championship against College of the Canyons.

Golden West 97, Long Beach City 55--Deana Itow scored 26 points and Julie Murdent scored 25 for Golden West (14-5) in consolation play. Itow also led the team with nine rebounds.

Nita Noel had 19 points for Long Beach (9-5).

In the Grossmont tournament:

Saddleback 71, Clark (Wash.) 58--Cheryl Dixon scored 13 points and Liza Pascucci had eight for Saddleback in the semifinals.

The Gauchos play the winner of McHenry-Los Angeles Harbor game in the finals.

In the San Jose tournament:

Chaffey 72, Orange Coast 69 (OT)--Jamie Shine had 19 points and 16 rebounds, America Robledo added 14 points and Stephanie McNamara finished with 11 points for Orange Coast (14-6) in the third-place game.
