COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Nowling’s Shot Gets Titans Past Pepperdine

Tara Nowling’s jumper from the free-throw line with seven seconds remaining gave Cal State Fullerton a 61-59 victory over Pepperdine in a nonconference women’s basketball game Thursday in Malibu.
Pepperdine (4-3), which rallied after trailing by nine points at halftime, missed a shot at the buzzer. Koko Lahanas had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Shayla Bradshaw scored 18 points for the Titans (3-4).
Lisa Siders had 20 points and 11 rebounds and former Huntington Beach High player Clare Walker scored 13 for Pepperdine.
In the Utah State men’s tournament:
Lewis-Clark State 88, Chapman 72--Lonnie Perteet scored 31 points and James Stoner had 17 to lead Lewis-Clark State (8-6). Ramin Bastani led Chapman (6-4) with 23 points. A 25-11 run early in the game proved costly for the Panthers.
In the UC San Diego women’s tournament:
Millikan (Ill.) 63, Chapman 56--Melody Earle scored a game-high 20 points for Chapman (5-4), which fell in a semifinal.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 76, Bethel (Kan.) 68--The Vanguards (3-5) broke a four-game losing streak by rallying from a 38-29 first-half deficit.
Heather Brannan made three of four three-point shots in the second half and finished with 15 points and eight assists. Tina Southard scored 18 for SCC.
