BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Crescenta Valley Girls Rally to Win in Final Quarter

The Crescenta Valley High girls’ basketball team rallied from a 19-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat San Gabriel, 67-66, Tuesday night in a nonleague game at San Gabriel.

The Falcons (13-4) trailed, 60-41, with six minutes left before Amirah Leonard caught fire.

The junior guard scored 13 points in the quarter, sinking three three-pointers.

Freshman Michelle Greco scored 29 points and contributed five blocked shots, five assists and five rebounds.

Joyce Garcia scored 24 points for San Gabriel (9-4).

Newbury Park 63, Camarillo 40--Kara McKeown scored 18 points as the Panthers (13-1, 3-0) won a Marmonte League game at Camarillo. Rene Intlekofer added 11 points.

Buena 79, Oxnard 23--Nicole Greathouse had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-2) in a Channel League opener. Eboni Conley added 13 points and nine steals for Buena.

Simi Valley 72, Agoura 37--Tawnee Cooper had 28 points and nine rebounds for the Pioneers (12-3, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Simi Valley led, 19-5, after the first quarter. Corey Phillips added 10 points for the Pioneers and Breea Johnson had 15 for Agoura (1-11, 0-3).

Thousand Oaks 68, Royal 28--Jenn Detmer scored 14 of her 28 points in the first quarter to lead the Lancers (9-6, 2-1) in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Village Christian 81, Pius X 43--Lindy James scored a school-record 36 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Crusaders (10-4) in a nonleague game.

The previous school record of 35 points was set by Jana Kovar during the 1987-88 season.

James and Trisha Palmquist, who added 20 points and 15 rebounds, combined to make nine of 14 shots from three-point range.

Louisville 44, Calabasas 43--Kari Crawley scored 12 points and Becky Witt added 10 to lead Louisville to a nonleague overtime victory.

Jamie Apody scored 13 points for Calabasas (7-3).

Westlake 43, Channel Islands 36--Katie Spayde scored 21 points and Megan Carmola added 15 for the Warriors in a Marmonte League game.

Judy Tuimoloau scored 16 points for Channel Islands (7-8, 1-2 in league play).

Westlake outscored the Raiders, 15-2, at the free throw line.

BOYS

Oak Park 78, Calabasas 39-- Randy Gastwirt scored 16 points for the Eagles in a nonleague game. Dan Heckman, starting in place of Jamal Ware, scored all 11 of his points in the first half.

Noel Bloom added 13 points.

Glendale 48, Dana Hills 42--The Dynamiters (9-5) made 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter in a nonleague game at Dana Hills.

Montclair Prep 64, Village Christian 54--Reed Berglund scored 22 points for the Mounties (13-3) in a nonleague game.

The game was tied, 46-46, after three quarters, but Montclair Prep outscored the Crusaders, 18-8, in the fourth quarter. Akil Anderson scored eight of his 10 points and grabbed five rebounds in the final eight minutes.

Scott Stark had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Anwan Jones added 10 rebounds for the Mounties.

Dave Gustafson scored 18 points for the Crusaders (5-6).

MEN

The Master’s 107, Le Tourneau 74--Mustang guard Mike Penberthy dished out 12 assists and scored 13 points against the Texas school in the semifinals of the Azusa Pacific tournament.

Doug Leaman scored 22 points for Master’s (11-3). James Mosley added 21 and Leo Gorauskas scored 17.

WOMEN

Glendale 59, Santa Barbara 55--Keri Peterson scored 21 points and Judith Nagy added 16 as the Vaqueros (3-10) won a nonconference game.

Valley 76, Cuesta 58--Erika Upton scored 15 points, leading a 32-point contribution from the Monarchs’ bench in a Western State Conference interdivision game at Valley.

Nikki Hamilton scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds for Valley (11-6). Maria Fulay scored 13 points and had nine assists. Vonya Dangerfield added 12 rebounds for Valley.

Ventura 91, Bakersfield 57--All five Pirate starters scored in double figures, leading Ventura (12-1) in a Western State Conference interdivision game.

Amber Magner scored 18 of her 22 points in the first half for Ventura.
