Arms flew. Voices screeched. Feet kicked and stomped.

But enough about the coaches.

Crescenta Valley High kept its cool down the stretch while rallying for a 71-54 victory over Muir in a Pacific League boys’ basketball game before an overflow crowd Friday night at Crescenta Valley.

The Falcons (17-1, 2-1 in league play) trailed for the better part of three quarters before Brock Jacobsen led a victory charge in the final 10 minutes.

Crescenta Valley, No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll, went ahead to stay, 48-47, on a basket by Blake Jacobson with two minutes left in the third quarter.

The Falcons closed with a 23-7 run, highlighted by 10 fourth-quarter points from Jacobsen--including eight of 10 free throws.

Jacobsen, who has signed with University of San Diego and ranks second in area scoring, had 25 points.

“He just finds a way to score,” Crescenta Valley Coach John Goffredo said. “Every game. If his threes are off, he drives. And he is incredible from the free-throw line.”

Goffredo was his usual vociferous self, particularly when the Falcons fell behind by seven points in the first half.

“I didn’t expect us to be way ahead,” Goffredo said. “They’re a good team.”

The Mustangs were overshadowed by Coach Rocky Moore, whose antics included hurling a water bottle and kicking the scorer’s table.

Incredibly, Moore was whistled for only one technical foul. It came with 1 minute 12 seconds to play and was assessed because the Mustangs (8-7, 2-1) failed to emerge from a timeout at the official’s request.

“I expect my kids to play with a certain level of intensity and it’s my job to be into the game,” Moore said. “I try to keep my kids motivated and challenged.”

Nathan Sinning had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Crescenta Valley. Jacobson added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Duane Curtis had 13 points for Muir and Quincy Stinson added 12. However, both players fouled out in the fourth quarter.
