HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Crespi Stuns Harvard-Westlake on Two Late Free Throws by Lins

Dave Lins made two free throws with two seconds to play to give Crespi High a 59-58 upset over Harvard-Westlake in a Mission League game Saturday night at Crespi.

The free throws capped a rally by Crespi (8-12, 1-7), which trailed Harvard (20-2, 8-1) by seven points with two minutes to play. Harvard is ranked No. 2 in The Times Valley poll.

Three-point shots by Gianandrea Marcaccini (14 points) and Mark Lubaszka (13 points) pulled the Celts to within 58-57.

With less than 15 seconds to play, Mike Jacques stole the ball at half court and passed it to Lins, who was fouled while attempting a three-point shot.

Lins, Crespi’s quarterback the past two football seasons, tied the score when he made the first free throw. He missed the second but converted the third for the victory.

Jason Collins had 30 points for Harvard, which led, 31-24, at halftime.

Burbank 77, Saugus 70--Matt Baker had 25 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

The Centurions (9-11, 4-4) led, 38-35, at halftime, but were outscored, 24-12, in the third quarter.

Burbank (13-7, 7-1) can clinch at least a share of the league title with a victory over Burroughs on Tuesday.

St. Genevieve 76, Mary Star 68--Tommy Reyes scored 30 points for Mary Star, which was outscored, 22-14, in the fourth quarter of a Santa Fe League game at St. Genevieve.

Mark Iaccino had 24 points and 11 rebounds for St. Genevieve (7-10, 4-4).

Villanova Prep 63, Dunn 56--The Wildcats’ Matt LaVere, who finished with 14 points, six assists and eight rebounds, hit three-pointers at both ends of a 29-11 second-half run that tied the score, 50-50.

The tying shot came with eight seconds to play in regulation, sending the Condor League game to overtime.

Griff Barkley had 24 points for Villanova (4-8, 3-3), which outscored Dunn, 13-6, in the extra period.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Hart 58, Burroughs 28--LaCresha Clark scored a career-high 28 points for Hart in a Foothill League game at Valencia High.

Hart (16-5, 7-1) moved into sole possession of first place and avenged an earlier loss to Burroughs. That defeat had snapped a 24-game league winning streak.

Saugus 61, Burbank 29--Wendy Gussner had 19 points for the Centurions (10-7, 5-3) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Melinda Yates had 12 points for Burbank.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Village Christian 4, Kilpatrick 0--John Rotunno scored two second-half goals in an Alpha League match at Village Christian.

Tony Yousif and Travis Wenkalman each scored in the first half for the Crusaders (6-5-2, 2-1-1).

Buena 3, Ventura 0--Striker Aaron Older scored two goals for the Bulldogs (8-6-3, 6-0-2), who remained undefeated in the Channel League.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 3, Alemany 1--Tami Pivnick had two goals in a Mission League match at Alemany. Pivnick also had an assist on Michelle French’s goal for the Eagles (13-3-2, 4-0).

Saugus 4, Burbank 0--Kelly Gores and Heather Halsted each scored two goals for the Centurions (8-6-2, 4-1) in a Foothill League match at Saugus.
