Brea Olinda Coach Jeff Sink kept waiting for his girls’ basketball team to unleash its fury on a formidable opponent.

Halfway through Saturday’s game at home against Riverside John W. North, it appeared he would have to wait another game.

However, third-ranked Brea Olinda came alive in the third quarter, scored 15 consecutive points to defeat the Huskies, 65-52, in a nonleague game.

“That’s the first quarter we played basketball the way we had the first 14 games of the year,” Sink said. “We shot the ball well, we hustled on defense and we boarded well and that made all the difference in the world.”

J.W. North, ranked third in Division II behind the second-ranked Wildcats, is now 19-1.

“We’ve been waiting three weeks to play with this kind of intensity,” Sink said.

Sink praised the play of sophomores Stephanie Wettlin, Marisa Bradley, Jennifer Saari and Rochelle Anthony, but it was senior Lee Moulin who really made the difference.

Moulin scored her 16 points in the second half.

Brea Olinda’s scoring run began after the Huskies’ Jeanine Horton put back a missed shot to give her team a 32-30 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter.

However, Brea Olinda (20-2) ran off 15 consecutive points over a five-minute stretch and held that advantage the rest of the way.
