Harvard-Westlake’s Kim Earns Soccer Honor

Harvard-Westlake High junior Natalie Kim has been named to the 18-player National Soccer Coaches’ Assn. of America Under-17 Youth All-America team.

Kim, a center midfielder, is one of three Californians on the team.

Simi Valley’s Brian Kavanagh, the Marmonte League’s defensive player of the year as a linebacker, has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., where he will play baseball and football.

Ty Russell of Royal High has accepted an appointment to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., where he will play football.

Chatsworth High girls’ basketball player Shana Sasaki, a senior all-league guard, will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury.

BASKETBALL

Junior Carrie Dormire led the Cal State Northridge women’s team with 16 points, but the Matadors (0-19) lost, 77-65, to host Pepperdine (9-10) in a nonconference game. . . . Jaime Jaquez scored 27 points for Moorpark College (19-8, 3-3) in an 86-77 Western State Conference North Division victory at Hancock. . . .Montclair Prep (12-5, 6-0) defeated West Valley Christian, 54-28, to clinch the West Valley League girls’ championship.

SOCCER

Jimmy Babbidge scored in the final minute of regulation to give host Chaminade (9-9-3, 4-5-1) a 1-1 tie with Notre Dame in a Mission League boys’ match. Chris Sailer scored for Notre Dame (12-5-1, 8-1-1). . . . John McDonald scored both goals for Alemany (11-13-2, 3-8) in a 2-1 victory against Harvard-Westlake in a Mission League boys’ match.

Host St. Francis (15-3-1, 9-1) shut out Loyola, 3-0, in a Mission League boys’ match. . . . Host Buena (23-2-2) remained atop the Channel League girls’ standings with a 3-1 victory against Ventura. . . . Harvard-Westlake beat host Alemany, 3-2, in a Mission League girls’ match.
