Westchester 65, Washington 52--Ben Sanders scored 23 of his game-high 34 points in the second half as the Comets won a City Section 4-A Division quarterfinal playoff game Wednesday at Westchester.

Sanders ignited Westchester with his third-quarter play, scoring 11 consecutive points.

Patrick Blake, who led Washington with 21 points, was the only General to reach double figures.

Daniel Brown and Charles Stone scored eight points apiece for Washington and Danny Walker chipped in nine points for the Comets.

“We knew they were going to make a run in the second half,” Washington co-Coach Andy Davis said. “Midway through the third quarter, we paniced. Westchester was more poised than our guys”

Free throw shooting was also a factor for the Generals, who made only 12 of 29 attempts. Fremont 54, Chatsworth 52--Raymond Sims made two free throws with 31 seconds remaining in the game to give the Pathfinders a City 4-A quarterfinal victory Wednesday at Fremont.

A three-point play by Chatsworth’s Jerome Joseph, who scored a game-high 20 points, tied the score at 52-52 with 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Sims, who scored eight points in the game, was then intentionally fouled by T.J. McCoy before making both free throws. Crenshaw 75, Grant 61--Grant twin brothers Ronald and Donald Patterson combined to score 40 points, but the Lancers could not overcome Crenshaw’s balanced attack in a City 4-A quarterfinal game Wednesday at Crenshaw.

The Cougars used a 13-3 second-quarter run to pull away from Grant and advance to the semifinals.

Forward Raymond Palmer led Crenshaw with 21 points and Antonio Simpson and Charlie Parker scored 10 apiece.
