HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Davenport Pitches Another No-Hitter

Pitcher Jessie Davenport recorded the third no-hitter of her high school career Tuesday as Thousand Oaks defeated Moorpark, 1-0, in a nonleague game.

Davenport had 13 strikeouts and one walk and out-dueled Moorpark’s Mindy Penrod.

Both pitchers had nine victories in 1994 and earned-run averages under 1.00. But Penrod (0-1) was victimized by two singles and an errant pickoff throw at third base that allowed Justine Rachlin to score in the first inning.

Davenport has 30 strikeouts in two games. She had 17 last week in a 1-1 tie against Santa Maria St. Joseph that was called after 11 innings.

Chara Smith was two for three for the Lancers.

St. Joseph is the defending champion in Southern Section Division IV and was ranked No. 1 in the section.

Hueneme 5, Santa Clara 3--First baseman Delaina Talili had two doubles, scored two runs and drove in two for the Vikings (1-0).

Talili’s bases-loaded double drove in two of Hueneme’s two runs in the first. The others scored on a bases loaded and a wild pitch. Santa Clara is 0-1.

Crescenta Valley 6, Burbank 0--Hope Robertshaw had three hits forthe Falcons (2-1) in a victory over the Bulldogs (1-2).

Monroe 6, Taft 1--Kelley Hall pitched a two-hitter, striking out six, for the Vikings (1-0) in a nonconference game at Monroe.

Kennedy 8, Palisades 1--Sophomore Sandra Durazo struck out 18 and pitched a one-hitter for the Golden Cougars in a nonconference game at Palisades. Durazo walked one batter.

Kennedy (1-0) scored its eight runs without a hit in the third inning.

Oak Park 2, Calabasas 1--Kaylene Boldroff pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven, for the Eagles (2-1) in a nonleague game at Oak Park. Julie Jensen was two for three with two RBIs for the Eagles.

Westlake 5-2, Ventura 0-1--Warrior junior left-hander Kelly DeArman (3-1) pitched a pair of one-hitters and struck out a total of 21 batters for Westlake (3-1) in the nonleague doubleheader.

Chaminade 5, Glendale 1--Kelly Durkin pitched a two-hitter, striking out seven, and Jennah Peake had two hits to for the Eagles (2-1) in a nonleague game at Glendale.

Reseda 15, Birmingham 0--Kristy Rebbeck and Rosie Yates combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Regents (2-0). The pair struck out 11 while catcher Jenaye Brown hit a two-run triple.

El Camino Real 13, Canoga Park 1--Gretchen Vandenburg hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning of El Camino Real’s nonconference victory.

Tami Jones pitched a one-hitter and also had two hits and three RBIs for El Camino Real (2-1).

Channel Islands 12, Oxnard 1--Renae Simmons (3-0) had a no-hitter until she allowed an unearned run in the sixth inning.

The Raiders scored 11 runs in the second inning.

Mara Neaudeau had two hits, including a double.

Cornerstone Christian 15, Faith Baptist 0--Junior right-hander Karen Breshears missed a perfect game by a fourth inning walk in a nonconference game at Faith Baptist that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Breshears struck out 11.
