Coach: Mike Pelton (20th year).

1994: 12-0, 5-0 in the South Coast League. Won the league championship and finished second at the Division I finals.

Key returners: Arika Earley (diver), Sr.; Beth Feeney, Jr.; Katie Feeney, Sr.; Cheryl Murphy, Sr.; Christina Rhee, Sr.; Carrie Williams, Jr.

Key newcomers: Shehani Gunasherp, Fr.; Christina Murphy, Fr.

Outlook: The Diablos will be in fierce competition with Capistrano Valley for the South Coast League title now that El Toro has moved to the Sea View League. Pelton admits this year’s team is lacking the depth his squad’s have enjoyed in the past. Despite the lack of swimmers, Mission Viejo has a good chance to repeat as league champion. It fields some of the county’s best swimmers in Murphy, who took fifth in the 200 individual medley at last year’s Division I finals, and Rhee, who took seventh in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles. Murphy also has become a top performer in the backstroke. Earley also will help the Diablos secure those all-important diving points during the league and section finals.
