Coach: Ken Dory (seventh year).

1994: 6-4-1, 5-1-1 in the Sea View League. Finished third in league and 10th at Division I finals.

Key returners: Steve Carrera, Sr.; Bryan Chase, Sr.; Eric Chen, Jr.; Garrett Greer, So.; Jeff Pack, Sr.; Steve Ronson, Jr.; Doug Tabbert, Jr.; Bryce Turi, So.; Ray Wong, Sr.;

Key newcomers: Mike Bilek, So.; Jeremy Vallone, Jr.; Chris Vyn, Jr.

Outlook: Though Irvine has lost its top freestyler, All-American Jason Lezak, the Vaqueros still remain strong and could give Corona del Mar a run for the league title. “Jason will be missed, but we have Steve (Ronson), and a lot of depth, and that will give us those points that will win dual meets,” Dory said. Besides Ronson, possibly the second best swimmer in the county, Dory thinks sophomore Turi will be instrumental in the freestyle and medley relays. Though the Vaqueros aren’t loaded with club swimmers, they have some good swimmers over from the water polo team. Dory thinks Irvine’s depth and quality will make the difference this year. “I think we really have a shot at winning league, but CdM, as always, will be tough.”
