1994-95 ALL-VENTURA BOYS : Basketball Team

STEVE AYLSWORTH

Westlake, 6-0, Junior, Guard

Aylsworth was the player who made things happen for the Warriors. He led the team with 17.1 points and 4.4 assists per game and was Marmonte League co-MVP. He also as named to the coaches’ all-county team.

ERIC CARLSEN

Royal, 6-5, Senior, Forward

Carlsen was a tough inside player who used his strength to help him to 9.4 rebounds a game, second-best in the league. He also scored 13.2 points a game for a team on which all five starters averaged 10 or more.

KEVIN COLLINS

Santa Clara, 6-4, Senior, Forward

Collins was the leading scorer and rebounder (11.7 points, 6.9 rebounds) on a team that finished tied for first in the Frontier League and extended a league winning streak to 91 games before losing to Santa Paula. He was the co-Frontier League Player of the Year.

MANUEL ESCAMILLA

Santa Paula, 6-1, Senior, Guard

Escamilla, a repeat selection, successfully made the transition from shooting to point guard, averaging 18 points and 4.8 assists in leading the Cardinals to a share of the Frontier League Championship. He was named Player of the Year by the Ventura County Coaches Association.

JOSH HILL

Camarillo, 6-6, Junior, Forward

In his first full season as a varsity starter, Hill led the Marmonte League in scoring (17.6) and finished third in rebounding (9.3). He shot 58% for the Scorpions and was second in the league with 30 blocked shots.

CENEKA SHAW

Buena, 6-5, Junior, Center

Shaw electrified crowds with his thunderous dunks. Against Dos Pueblos he grabbed a shot out of the air and reverse-dunked it. He averaged 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks a game for the Bulldogs.

DAN SWEENEY

Oxnard, 6-3, Junior, Guard/Forward

Sweeney averaged 11.4 points and 7.4 rebounds to lead a resurgent Oxnard team into the playoffs. The Yellowjackets hadn’t had a winning record in 10 years. He was also an All-Channel League pick.

ANTHONY TAURIELLO

Simi Valley, 6-0, Senior, Guard

Starting the season just weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, Tauriello led an inexperienced Pioneer team to a 20-6 record. He finished among the state leaders with 10 assists per game and averaged 12.1 points.

BEN TRYK

Santa Paula, 6-2, Senior, Guard

Tryk, a co-player of the year in the Frontier League, averaged 18 points a game during the regular season and helped the Cardinals advance to the Southern Section Division III-A quarterfinals. He scored 22 points in Santa Paula’s 52-49 victory over Santa Clara.

SHAWN WILLIAMS

Oak Park, 6-3, Senior, Forward

Williams was an All-Tri-Valley League and a first-team Times All-Ventura County selection for the second consecutive year after leading the Eagles to a league championship and a 14-11 finish. Williams averaged team-high totals of 17 points, 5.4 steals and 4.4 assists.
