HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Chatsworth, Farzaneh 1-Up Cleveland and Schultz, 2-1

Chatsworth’s Fred Farzaneh pitched a one-hitter, leading the Chancellors to a 2-1 victory over Cleveland in a Northwest Valley Conference baseball game Thursday at Chatsworth.

Farzaneh (2-1) struck out six and walked two in a pitchers’ duel with Mike Schultz (1-4), who pitched a two-hitter for Cleveland (3-8, 2-6).

The Chancellors (8-4, 6-2) broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth when Tony Ardito scored on an error by Cleveland shortstop Junior Brignac.

El Camino Real 6, Granada Hills 4--Steve Nelson’s two-run double with two out in the sixth broke a 4-4 tie in the Northwest Valley Conference game at El Camino Real.

Jim Landress’ two-out, two-run single in the third tied the game for Granada Hills (7-5, 4-4).

Freshman P.J. Reyes (1-1) won in relief for El Camino Real (7-4-1, 4-4) despite giving up two hits and a run in 1 1/3 innings.

Kennedy 13, Taft 5--David Soto drove in three runs with four hits, including three doubles, for the Golden Cougars (10-3, 6-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference game. Soto (3-1) allowed a run on two hits in three innings of relief.

Kennedy’s George Kassis drove in four runs with a double and a triple.

San Fernando 5, Birmingham 1--John Vargas (1-0) went the distance as the Tigers (6-7, 3-5) beat the Braves (8-7, 4-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game.

Monroe 9, Grant 1--Wayne Nix struck out 15 and allowed five hits for the Vikings (6-7, 6-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe. Nix also had a double and triple and drove in four runs.

Adam Frank had two hits, including a triple, for Grant (4-6, 3-5).

Poly 10, Van Nuys 0--Hugo De La Torre pitched a two-hit shutout for his first complete game, and Jaime Cerna and Ray Montenegro each had two hits and an RBI for the Parrots (8-4, 7-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

Saugus 8, Burbank 1--Brad Fogel (3-1) pitched his third complete game for Saugus (7-5, 3-1), allowing four hits and striking out six in a Foothill League game at Burbank.

Saugus’ Nate Wright had four hits, including his first home run.

SOFTBALL

Westlake 2, Camarillo 1--The Warriors (11-3, 4-2) took advantage of two Scorpion errors to score two runs in the sixth inning at Westlake and tighten the Marmonte League race.

Camarillo (8-2, 5-1) fell into a first-place tie with Newbury Park, a game ahead of Westlake and Thousand Oaks.

Westlake’s Arin Carlson scored the go-ahead run when Camarillo catcher Jessica Mendoza dropped a throw to the plate.

Westlake’s Kelly DeArman (10-3) struck out four and Camarillo’s Cindy Ball struck out 10.

Thousand Oaks 1, Simi Valley 0--Junior shortstop Ashley Bergin homered with two out in the 13th for the Lancers (7-4-1, 4-2) in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.

Jessie Davenport struck out 15 to outduel Lori Tande of the Pioneers (5-5, 3-3).

Newbury Park 5, Royal 0--Kristi Fox pitched her third no-hitter of the season for the Panthers (8-2, 5-1) in a Marmonte League game at Royal.

Michelle Disney had a two-out pinch-hit single with a runner on third to break a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth.

Saugus 12, Burroughs 1--Nicole Giordano had four hits, three RBIs and two runs for the Centurions (8-3, 2-0) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Giordano (3-0) allowed four hits and walked one in relief of Jamie Gillies.

Glendale 10, Muir 0--Tara Allender (5-5) pitched a one-hitter and struck out five for the Dynamiters (5-6, 2-0) in the Pacific League game at Muir.

St. Genevieve 13, St. Matthias 0--Stacy Champy pitched a five inning no-hitter, striking out 11, in a Sunrise League game that was called because of the 10-run rule.

Christle Gonzalez hit two home runs for the Valiants (5-5, 2-0).

Montclair Prep 12, Oakwood 0--Brandi Cohen (5-0) ran her scoreless streak to 36 innings, allowing one hit over five innings for the Mounties (9-0) in a nonleague game at North Hollywood Park.

Poly 29, Grant 2--The Parrots (6-5, 3-3) trounced the Lancers, pounding out 27 hits in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.

Poly’s Alida Gray had five hits, five RBIs and scored four times, while Teresa Medina had five hits, three RBIs and scored five times.

Reseda 5, Monroe 0--Kristy Rebbeck (6-0) pitched a two-hitter, striking out five, and Brenda Lomeli added two hits and two RBIs for the Regents (12-0, 6-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe.

Sylmar 4, Canoga Park 2--Cherise Espinosa (6-3) and Jennifer Brown combined on a three-hitter for the Spartans (8-5, 5-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Canoga Park. Brown, who pitched the final three innings and earned her first save, struck out the side in the seventh inning.

Oak Park 10, Bishop Diego 0--Kaylene Boldroff starred on the mound and at the plate for Oak Park (8-4, 2-1) in its Tri Valley League victory at Oak Park. She struck out six and walked one, and had two hits and three RBIs.

GOLF

Hart 317, Westlake 321, Agoura 344--Hart junior Jason Semelsberger fired a two-under 59 to lead Hart over Westlake at Vista Valencia Golf Course in a nonleague tri-match featuring the area’s two strongest teams.

Hirosho Kawashima shot 62 for Westlake (13-1). Dave Trovato added a 62 for Hart (10-0).
