Crescenta Valley High scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Glendale, 3-2, in a Pacific League baseball game Friday night at Stengel Field.

The Falcons (8-2, 5-2) couldn’t reach base against junior left-hander Bryan Chan until the fifth inning and did not score until the sixth to cut Glendale’s lead to 2-1.

Jason Griffiths walked on four pitches to start the seventh and scored from first base when third baseman Jesus Osuna threw wildly after fielding Kevin Enright’s bunt.

Enright advanced to third on the play and was replaced by pinch-runner John Noble, who mistakenly believed a squeeze play had been called. Noble charged home and scored when Gary Godbold chopped a grounder to shortstop.

“He thought there was a squeeze on but there wasn’t,” Crescenta Valley Coach Tony Zarrillo said. “Godbold did a good job getting the bat on the ball, God bless him. We were extremely fortunate to win this game.”

Chan (2-2), who pitched a no-hitter against Pasadena three weeks ago, was just the opposite.

He pitched four perfect innings before yielding a leadoff single to Jesse Daggett in the fifth. In the sixth, the Falcons tagged Chan for a walk and two singles, including a looper to right field by Brian Peterson that drove home Godbold.

Chan, who struck out four and had only the walk in the seventh, halted the rally by getting Ty Reed on a called third strike with runners in scoring position.

“The infamous leadoff walk,” said Coach Spiro Psaltis of Glendale (5-4, 3-4). “When you put yourself in position to win a game, you should win it.”
