HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Roberts Prevails Despite 6 Harvard-Westlake Errors

Harvard-Westlake’s Corey Roberts (4-2) pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven as the Wolverines beat St. Genevieve, 6-3, in a nonleague softball game at Harvard-Westlake.

Tracey Balton had two hits and two runs batted in for the Wolverines (6-3), who had five hits off the Valiants’ Stacey Champy (4-5).

St. Genevieve (6-6) made five errors while Harvard-Westlake committed six.

Camarillo 14-2, Rio Mesa 3-0--Jessica Ziese had four hits, including a two-run triple and six RBIs for the Scorpions (11-2-1) in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Rio Mesa.

Julie Borchard drove in three runs with a triple in Camarillo’s 12-run fifth inning.

Freshman Cindy Ball (2-1-1) pitched a one-hitter in the second game, striking out eight and walking three.

Notre Dame 4, Chaminade 0--Angela Rotstein (7-6) pitched a two-hitter, recording her first shutout for the Knights (8-7, 3-1) in a Mission League game.

Rotstein had two hits and drove in two runs for the Knights.

Grant 10, Canoga Park 7; Poly 10, Grant 3--Heather Chavez had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in two runs to lift the Lancers (3-9) over Canoga Park in the Grant tournament.

In an earlier game, fourth-inning doubles by Teresa Meoina and Lety Pelayo keyed an eight-run rally for Poly.

Alemany 7, Louisville 2--Sophie Contreraz (17-1) held the Royals (5-4, 1-2) to four hits in a Mission League game at Louisville.

Tiffany Curcio drove in three runs with a triple in the fifth for the Indians (19-1, 3-0).

BASEBALL

Viewpoint 13, First Lutheran 3--Matt Nesse and Sheffield each stole three bases for the Patriots (5-2, 3-0) in a Heritage League game.

BOYS’ TRACK

Harvard-Westlake 81, Chaminade 44--Merlin DeMartinis won three events for the visiting Wolverines in a Mission League meet.

DeMartinis timed 15.6 seconds in the 100-meter high hurdles, cleared 5 feet 6 inches in thehigh jump and 12 feet in the pole vault for Harvard-Westlake (2-2, 2-2).

Loyola 92, Notre Dame 30--Troy Garner ran a personal best of 22.1 to win the 200, but the Knights won only one other event in the Mission League meet at Notre Dame.

Brian Maury went 40-2 in the triple jump to give the Knights (4-1, 4-1) their only other victory as the Cubs (7-0, 5-0) romped.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Harvard-Westlake 65, Chaminade 58--Sophomore Liz Giltner won four events for the Eagles (1-2, 1-1), but Harvard-Westlake prevailed in the Mission League meet at Chaminade.

Giltner, sixth in the high jump in last year’s State championships, won that event at 5-4 and added victories in the 200 meters (27.2), 100 high hurdles (15.5) and shotput (32-5 1/2).

GOLF

Notre Dame 203, Chaminade 220--Clark Pingree’s one-over-par 36 led the Knights (4-7-1, 4-4) in a nine-hole Mission League match at DeBell Golf Course in Burbank.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Campbell Hall d. Crossroads, 15-11, 15-6, 15-7--Jeff Bloxham had eight kills and three blocks and Mark Billings had seven kills for the Vikings (9-2, 4-1) in an Alpha League match at Crossroads.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Harvard-Westlake 97, Chaminade 73--Michael Bohlmann won the 50 freestyle in 22.38 seconds and swam on winning 200 medley (1:46.52) and 400 freestyle relay (3:25.59) teams for the Wolverines in a Mission League dual meet.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Harvard-Westlake 117, Chaminade 53--Tammy Hussain was a double winner for the Eagles (4-3, 2-2) in a Mission League dual meet, taking the 50 freestyle in 26.55 and the 100 freestyle in 58.75.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Notre Dame 9, Crespi 9--Joe Sisson and Andrew Pogany won two doubles sets as the Knights (8-4, 3-3), won on games, 75-71, in the Mission League.
