Sproule to Play Soccer at San Diego State

Defensive midfielder Chris Sproule of La Canada High has made a verbal commitment to San Diego State.

Sproule, a four-time All-Rio Hondo League selection in soccer, scored four goals and added eight assists for the Spartans in last season.

La Canada was 25-0 last season and won the Southern Section Division IV championship.

The Valley United Blast, a boys’ 17-and-under club soccer team, was defeated, 6-4, by a team from Costa Rica on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Dallas Cup, an international youth tournament in Dallas.

The Blast includes Golden League player of the year Danny Nishiyama of Quartz Hill, Jon McDonald of Alemany, Gabriel Ortega of Birmingham and Kendall Simmonds of Royal.

Baseball

Kevin Farlow, a former Kennedy High standout, has re-signed with the Sioux City Explorers of the independent Northern League.

Farlow, an infielder, was City Section 4-A Division player of the year at Kennedy and later played at USC.

Last year, he batted .273 with nine homers and 39 runs batted in for Sioux City.

Karate

Tarzana Recreation Center will play host to “Kicks for Charity on the Move,” on April 23rd with a karate demonstration by kids helping persons with multiple sclerosis.

Golf

Bob Martin of Ojai made a hole in one on the 190-yard 13th hole at Saticoy Country Club, one of three players to make an ace on the course this week.

Ventura’s Alex Golbuff scored a hole in one on the 146-yard 10th and Mavis Horn aced the 10th hole from the 138-yard women’s tee.
