Local Boxers in Final Round of Golden Gloves
Dwain Williams, Frank Carmona and Fidel Hernandez reached the finals of the Golden Gloves boxing tournament last week at Lincoln Park. Finals were held Saturday, too late for publication.
Williams (25-7), a Dorsey High junior who boxes for Normandie/Denker Recreation Center, won his prelim and boxed stablemate Jose Arias Saturday. Williams (147 pounds) bested Anthony Nevarez of Oxnard, 3-0.
Carmona (40-23), of Resurrection Gym of East L.A., defeated Jose Hernandez of Cache Gym (Vernon), 3-0, on Tuesday in the 125-pound division. On Wednesday, he beat Salvador Hernandez of East Valley Boys’ Club, 2-1. Hernandez (30-4), of Boyle Heights’ Youth Athletic Club, stopped Gilbert Rivera of Santa Barbara Tuesday. On Wednesday, Hernandez, 156, bested John Aguilar of Colton, 3-0.
