BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Canoga Park Gets Nixed by Monroe Ace, 11-0

Wayne Nix of Monroe High pitched a no-hitter Tuesday in an 11-0 Valley Pac-8 Conference victory over Canoga Park at Monroe.

Nix (7-2) struck out 14 and walked two.

David Lusk had four hits and two runs batted in for the Vikings (13-7, 9-2).

Ray Rodriguez had three hits and three RBIs and Josh Miranda had three hits and two stolen bases.

Alfredo Aleman had a bunt single in the fifth, extending his hitting streak to 16 games.

Reseda 10, Van Nuys 9--The Regents played the final two innings with eight players, using two outfielders in the Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Reseda started the game with 12 players and made several substitutions in the fifth inning with a 10-1 lead, but it was left shorthanded when left-fielder Michael Oxx was ejected for throwing his helmet at the end of the fifth.

Gilbert Casillas and Carlos Flores each had doubles against the two-man outfield as the Wolves rallied for eight runs.

With one out and the bases loaded in the seventh, Brian Menkin relieved and got force plays at home and third for the final outs.

Menkin had two hits and four RBIs and Teo Pasos three hits and two RBIs for the Regents (3-8, 3-8).

Carlos Flores had three hits and three RBIs for Van Nuys (3-16, 3-8).

El Camino Real 6, Chatsworth 2--Marvin Jones had a two-run home run and Mike Conn pitched a five-hitter for the Conquistadores (13-6-1, 7-4) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

Ray Daryabigi, playing his first game of the season, struck out eight and gave up two hits in five innings of relief for Chatsworth (12-8, 6-5). Daryabigi was academically ineligible until this week.

Sylmar 11, Grant 1--Rafael Velazco pitched a five-hitter and had two hits, including a double, for the Spartans (14-5, 8-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Rene Zavala and Albert Palma each had two of Sylmar’s 16 hits.

Littlerock 4, Antelope Valley 3--Ricardo Lopez hit two home runs, including one in the bottom of the sixth that put the Lobos ahead for good, and added a double and three RBIs in a Golden League game at Littlerock.

Frank Landano (4-1) went the distance and scattered seven hits for the Lobos (7-15, 2-3).

Sean Douglass had a home run and a double, and Jeremy Holiday scattered seven hits and struck out nine for the Antelopes (4-13, 1-4).

Poly 11, North Hollywood 1--Steve Guerrero had four hits, scoring twice and driving in two runs for the Parrots (14-5, 10-1) in a Valley Pac--8 Conference game.

Rio Mesa 11, Buena 1--Steve Arneson had three hits and two RBIs, leading the Spartans (14-4, 7-2) to their ninth consecutive victory in a Channel League game at Buena.

Crescenta Valley 9, Pasadena 2--Kasey Canale had three hits, including two in a nine-run first inning, and the Falcons (14-3, 8-2) won a Pacific League game.

Kevin Enright also had three hits.

Arcadia 5, Glendale 4--Chris Sheldon had three hits and scored twice for the Dynamiters (8-7, 5-5) in an 11-inning Pacific League setback.

Calabasas 12, Santa Clara 0--Jared Sandler (6-0) pitched his second shutout for the Wolves (18-0, 10-0), striking out nine, walking three and scattering three hits in the Frontier League game.

Sandler also had three hits, including a run-scoring triple, and every Coyote batter had at least one hit and one RBI.

Oak Park 8, Fillmore 0--Brent Schneider had three hits and three RBIs, and Mike Corley had nine strikeouts in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.

Mike Giunta had a triple for the Eagles (9-5, 7-1) to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Saugus 11, Burbank 5--Nate Wright had three hits, including a double, and scored twice, and Brandon Hernandez added two hits and drove in three runs for the Centurions (11-9, 4-4) in a Foothill League game at Saugus.

Dave Wilson and Eric Cohen each had two hits for the Centurions.

Ramiro Alvarez had three hits for the Bulldogs (6-10, 3-5).

Burroughs 13, Canyon 12--Tommy Perez doubled and hit a grand slam in the first inning for the Indians (8-11-1, 3-4) in a Foothill League game.

COLLEGE

Valley 5, Glendale 4--Colyn Van Buren had three hits and an RBI and scored twice for the Monarchs in a Western State Conference South Division game at Stengel Field.

Van Buren led off the sixth with a home run to tie the score, 3-3, and Valley (10-24-1, 6-16) added two runs in the seventh.

Canyons 14, Bakersfield 13--Joe Chutuk’s two-run single in the 13th inning gave the Cougars (17-23, 12-9) a WSC South Division victory at Canyons.

Chaffey 11, Antelope Valley 6--Todd Barnes hit his fifth homer for the Marauders (16-15-1, 11-11) in a Foothill Conference defeat.

Moorpark 6, Ventura 4--Britten Pond, Brian Delmonte and Alex Alvarenga each had two hits for the Raiders (25-10, 15-6) in a WSC game at Ventura.
