HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Parker Zeroes In on San Marino

Lindsay Parker pitched her fourth no-hitter of the season and struck out a season-high 19 batters Tuesday, leading La Canada High to a 4-0 victory over San Marino at La Canada.

Parker (14-1), a senior who has 10 shutouts this seasons and 26 no-hitters in her career, also had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. She walked two.

Tricia Walton added two hits for the Spartans (14-1, 7-0).

Newbury Park 1, Simi Valley 0--Jann Thorpe’s one-out single in the bottom of the 14th ended the Marmonte League marathon for the Panthers (15-4, 7-2).

Kristi Fox struck out 10 for Newbury Park and Lori Tande struck out four for Simi Valley (9-11, 4-5).

Camarillo 8, Agoura 2--Robin Degner, Jessica Ziese and Julie Borchard each had two hits and Kortney Edge had three RBIs for the Scorpions (16-2, 8-1) in a Marmonte League game.

Westlake 3, Royal 0--Michelle Notaro had three hits, including a double, and Cathy Davie hit her fourth home run, for the Warriors (15-4, 7-2) in a Marmonte League game.

Westlake junior left-hander Kelly DeArman pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Thousand Oaks 8, Channel Islands 0--Brandi Peterson’s single with two out in the seventh broke up a no-hit bid by Jennifer Sharron (5-1) of Thousand Oaks (11-5-1, 6-3) in a Marmonte League game.

Buena 1, Rio Mesa 0--Michelle Cordes scored on a throwing error in the first inning for the Bulldogs (15-2-1, 9-0) in a Channel League game.

Nicole Greathouse pitched a two-hitter for Buena. Sonia Ortiz pitched a three-hitter for Rio Mesa (7-10, 6-3).

La Reina 4, Bishop Diego 0--Jennifer Baltruzak missed a perfect game when she gave up a single with two out in the seventh inning of a Tri-Valley League game at La Reina. She struck out seven.

San Marcos 11, Oxnard 0--Jenny Hehnke pitched her third no-hitter of the season, beating the Yellowjackets (4-12, 1-8) in a Channel League game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Three players, including Hehnke, hit home runs for San Marcos (14-3, 8-1).

Moorpark 5, Santa Paula 2--Meaghan Finnerty had a triple, a home run and drove in four runs to help the Musketeers keep a one-game lead in the Frontier League.

Oak Park 26, Carpinteria 4--Kaylene Boldroff struck out 12 and walked six, scattering four hits for the Eagles (10-6, 3-2) in a Tri-Valley League game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Christy Argast hit a grand slam for the Eagles, who benefited from 14 Warrior errors, and Katie Russell drove in three runs with two hits.

Canyon 13, Burbank 1--Kassi Lemasters hit a grand slam in an eight-run first inning by the Cowboys (8-10, 2-3) in a Foothill League game at Canyon.

Antelope Valley 17, Littlerock 3--Tashie Aguiniaga hit for the cycle for the Antelopes (10-8, 4-1) in a Golden League game.

Reseda 2, Sylmar 1--Jenaye Brown had two hits and scored the game-winning run for the Regents (16-0, 8-0) in a Valley Pac--8 Conference victory.

Kristy Rebbeck (8-0) scored the Regents’ first run on Brenda Lomeli’s first-inning single.

Sonia Rodriguez had two hits for Sylmar (8-10, 5-3).

Monroe 7, Canoga Park 1--Angie Arroyo had two triples, two RBIs and scored three times for the Vikings (9-4, 7-1).

Monica Espedia added a run-scoring triple and Kelley Hall (8-4) pitched a one-hitter, striking out nine to set up a Mid-Valley League championship game with Reseda on Thursday.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Harvard-Westlake d. Loyola, 13-15, 15-3, 15-11, 15-13--Jim Ostrich had 18 kills and Trevor Julian added 15 for the Wolverines in a Mission League victory over the Cubs, the second-ranked boys volleyball team in Southern Section Division I.

The Wolverines (11-3, 9-1) moved into a first-place tie with Loyola four days after the Wolverines lost a five-game match to No. 1 Mira Costa.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Granada Hills 18, University 11 1/2--Alan Dominguez, at No. 2 singles, played with a broken right hand and swept four matches for the Highlanders (13-3) in a City Section 4-A Division quarterfinal match.

The Highlanders will face Taft in the semifinals today at the Racquet Centre in Studio City.

Kennedy 25, Belmont 4 1/2--Norman Menjivar, Mike Chung, Joe Neheme and Tim Choi each won four singles matches for the third-seeded Golden Cougars (11-2) in a City Section first-round playoff match at Kennedy.

BOYS’ TRACK

Harvard-Westlake 83, Cathedral 44--Kadar Lewis and Merlin DeMartinis turned in season-best performances for the Wolverines (3-2) in the nonleague meet at Harvard-Westlake.

Lewis timed 10.6 seconds in the 100 and 22.3 in the 200. DeMartinis posted personal bests of 15.1 in the 110 high hurdles and 14 feet 1 inch in the pole vault.

Newbury Park 78 1/2, Royal 57 1/2--Ron Robertson won the 100 in 11.1 seconds and anchored the Panthers’ 440-yard relay team to victory in the Marmonte League meet.

Brock Diediker added a victory in the shotput (50-6) as Newbury Park (8-1, 6-1) posted its best dual-meet record since 1977 and finished second in the dual-meet standings to Thousand Oaks.
