The fourth and last finalist for the vacant position as Cal State Northridge football coach was interviewed Tuesday, clearing the way for a possible decision by the end of the week.

Pepper Matanga, who has coached in professional leagues and in the major college ranks as an assistant, met the team before practice.

Matanga, 40, has coached as an assistant in the Arena Football League and Canadian Football League. He was also an assistant UC Santa Barbara and at Cal under former coach Joe Kapp.

After meeting with Matanga, players were asked to fill out evaluations on the four finalists. The results will be forwarded to the selection committee for review.

The selection committee is expected to meet today or tomorrow to review the candidates and forward a recommendation.

The other three finalists are Valley College Coach Jim Fenwick, Santa Rosa College Coach Dave Baldwin and CSUN assistant Dale Bunn.
