D’Amato Establishes His Seniority by Shooting 73

Al D’Amato of Simi Valley fired a two-over-par 73 Wednesday to earn medalist honors in a regional qualifier for the fourth California Senior Amateur Championship at Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield.

D’Amato won by three shots in the field of 53 and advanced to the championship, to be held June 22-23 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Qualifying with a 78 was Darryl Erlandson of Somis. Joe Bolstad of Westlake Village and Charles Wagner of Camarillo each shot 81 to qualify.

Soccer

La Canada High, the Southern Section Division IV boys’ champion, is ranked No. 1 in the National Soccer Coaches Assn.’s poll for the winter/spring rating period.

The Spartans, who went 25-0 and tied a Southern Section record by allowing only six goals, are one of two California teams in the poll. Santa Barbara (24-4-3), the Southern Section Division II champion, is ranked No. 13.

Agoura striker Sarah Pratts has signed a letter of intent with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Pratts scored 19 goals last season for the Chargers.

Volleyball

Tryouts for the Northridge Juniors for boys 12 to 18 will be held Sunday at Notre Dame High at 5 p.m.
